What's Trending in Design in 2023? You've Come to the Right Place...
While the color red is not a color that home stagers often use in their projects, shades of this color are making a huge comeback in interior design. Earth tones like browns, pinks and mauve are showing up everywhere. Hello 1970's & bye bye gray!
Soft Pinks & Earth Tones
I'm pretty partial to both these colors as my home office has been painted in a delicate pink color for the last 3-4 years and I still love it to this day! I'm an earth sign so everything that has to do with nature, wood, earth tones & warm colors, I'm absolutely crushing on right now. However, the tones of color that I personally love in my own home are more muted and not so heavily saturated. What we are seeing right now is a huge nod to big, bright & bold colors on the rise like red, yellow, orange and green.
The Curvy Decor Trend
This trend has been creeping up on us for quite some time now in the form of sofas and occasional chairs. Currently, I'm seeing it in the form of pillows, headboards, nightstands, wall sconces & ottomans just to name a few. It's fun, it's fresh and a good time to embrace this trend is now. Start with some small pieces at first, like an occasional side chair or 2 and see for yourself how well this curvy decor trend fits in with your very own home decor. It really works well with everything. Since most of us are visual creatures, I believe this trend is going to be an easy one to incorporate into your home. It will immediately soften the linear look & sharp lines we are use to seeing everywhere. In my humble opinion, the curvy decor trend is sure to be a big hit!
Decorative Lighting
While metals such as copper, gold, brass & steel will remain a design trend in lighting fixtures, what's very exciting to see on the rise is the use of raw materials in decorative lighting like glass, wood & jute. I'm obsessed right now with any chandelier that is dripping in strands of wooden beads and my guess is you will soon be too! Introducing these natural elements into your next home design project is a surefire way to make your space feel warm, cozy, glamorous, simple or elegant.
Wallpaper or Wallcoverings as it is referred to today!
YUP! Wallcoverings are back and better than ever. A MUST to check out is the easy peel & stick kind. Wayfair & Amazon sell some fun and colorful prints. Want to create a unique piece of art? Pick your favorite wallpaper patten and mount it in a frame. You can even create a large piece of art by displaying it on an accent wall. Wallcoverings are having their moment right now so embrace it for your next bathroom remodel or kitchen update and yes, even pop it on your tray ceiling.
Natural Wood Tones
Wood is back in a big way and painting cabinets gray or white is a thing of the not so distant past. I know after talking to several clients about what they are looking for when living in their spaces, collectively, it's the same response - cozy, comfortable, secure & inviting. Since 2021, most people are finding that their homes have now become their safe havens for work, living & having fun. One way to easily incorporate this natural design element into your next design project is by adding a statement piece like a wooden coffee table or by adding different elements like wicker chairs, wooden vases and maybe some floating wooden shelves throughout to tie your spaces together.
As home stagers, we understand the importance of following design trends to quickly sell homes for top dollar. When designing for our clients and to make their home feel special and meaningful, sometimes, not following the design trends works best. This process is more personal to them, and they don't always want to "jump on" what's trending at the moment.
